How to make your Russian Manicure last 4+ weeks

Nail Care 12 May 2026 5 min read

The aftercare habits our senior nail artists swear by — simple things that make a visible difference.

Russian Manicure is loved for its clean cuticle work and gel that bonds beautifully to the nail plate. But to get the full 4 weeks (and beyond), the work we do at the salon needs to be paired with smart habits at home.

1. Use cuticle oil every night

This is the single most-skipped step. One drop of cuticle oil massaged into the nail fold each night keeps the skin around the nail supple — which in turn helps the gel bond stay intact at the edges.

At VA Glamour we send every client home with this tip. The difference shows in 7–10 days.

2. Wear gloves for dishes & cleaning

Hot water and surfactants are the fastest way to dull and lift a gel manicure. A thin pair of rubber gloves can add a full week of wear, easily.

3. Don't use your nails as tools

Prying lids, scraping stickers, peeling tape — all create stress at the free edge and a tiny lift turns into a chip in days. Use the side of your finger, a coin or a real tool instead.

4. Book your fill at week 3

Around the 3-week mark you'll notice some growth at the cuticle. This is the perfect time to come in for a fill — cheaper than a full new set, and your hands stay polished the whole month.

5. Sleep well, drink water, eat protein

Your nails are an extension of your overall health. Hydration, sleep and protein all show up in how your nails grow, how often they snap and how well a new gel set bonds.

A long-lasting Russian Manicure isn't only about the artist's skill — it's a partnership between the salon and your everyday habits.

We'll see you in three weeks for your fill. 💛
